Ukraine's energy systems have come under increased attacks in the past few days

Overnight, Moscow's missile and drone strikes have resulted in electricity outages in extensive areas of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were hurt while local people in eastern districts were experienced blackouts and faced disruption to drinking water, according to city officials.

Meanwhile, a young boy was fatally injured in a different assault in the Zaporizhzhia region in the country's south-east, based on information from local officials.

Moscow has intensified attacks on power infrastructure over the past few days, while Ukrainian leadership has called for "substantial measures" from allies to exert influence on Moscow.

"What's needed is not window dressing but firm measures - from the US, European nations and the Group of Seven - in providing air defence systems and enforcing sanctions," he wrote in a social media post.

Authorities reported that 450 drones and more than 30 projectiles struck the country's power systems, describing such assaults as "premeditated" and against "critical infrastructure" as winter approaches.

Government representatives said Russia was "conducting extensive attacks" and repair crews were working to repair systems.

A wave of strikes struck electrical systems and residential structures in the capital.

Multiple people hurt in the attacks on the capital have been transported for medical care, per statements from municipal representatives.

Regional authorities said the metropolitan region came under significant strikes overnight. A minor was killed and multiple civilians were hurt.

The assaults follow evenings of air raids in the area, sections of which are occupied by Russian forces.

All of Ukraine is in a state of readiness for advanced weapon attacks, which are harder to spot.

National leaders told journalists that Moscow was purposely seeking to demolish the country's energy grid, with assaults already impacting energy systems.

Authorities confirmed energy workers and authorities were preparing for additional strikes.
