It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
